56 Years Old Woman Molested by Neighbour in Manipur

A 56 years old woman was molested by a 54 years old neighbour last
night at Khunyai Leikai, Kakching, Manipur. The Complaint was lodged
at Kakching police station this morning and police was reluctant to
registered FIR and arrest the culprit.
According to the source reaching North East Support Centre and
Helpline that inccident happened when the victim was seating outside
her home along her daughter in-law, the neighbour Ibomcha came grabed
hold of her and outraged her modesty. She was frighten with shame and
insult and fell unconsious and later admitted at Kakching Community
Health Centre.
The family member hired a lawyer and lodged complaint at Kakching
Police station and the concerned police official neither register FIR
nor taken any action until North East Support Centre and Helpline
spoke to the OC of Kakching police station.
''I was stunned at the attitute of Kakching Police official, when
enquired about the case. The OC said that no FIR will be registered
and action taken as it is the matter of case between neighbours,''
says Madhu Chandra, Spokesperson of North East Support Centre and
Helpline.
The assurance was give to NE Helpline after talking to the OC, if not
case registered and action taken against the culprit, the matter will
be taken up with higher authorities.
The National Crime Records Bureau has recorded Manipur the four
highest crime against women. Such inactiveness of law enforcing
agencies will motivate the perpetators to commit such crimes in
future.
UPA government's home ministry has brought new law to curve the crime
against North East people in different cities, Manipur govertment must
bring policy and plan of action to stop crimes against women in the
state.
