4th January Earthquake is a Warning and Wakeup Call
8th January 2016
Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) condoles the loss of lives in the 4th January, 2016 earthquake. FEGOCTA is seriously concerned at the damages caused by the earthquake to the public places and buildings of educational institutions in Manipur and great risk associated with the damages.
FEGOCTA appeals specially to the government college teachers to donate to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The biggest earthquake in recent times should be taken as a serious warning and wakeup call to the government and people. Manipur is highly vulnerable being under Zone-V in the country’s Seismological map.
Hence the government and people should take up steps including awareness campaign, training and strict enforcement of safety and construction rules.
Though earthquake is at the mercy of the Nature, such steps will reduce loss and damages by earthquake in future. Inclusion in the curriculum and syllabus in the schools and colleges about the earthquake becomes a necessity.
