45th Manipur Statehood Day
The 45th Manipur Statehood Day is celebrated all across the state with full enthusiasm today. The day marks the significance of Manipur becoming a full fledged state of the Indian Union.
Speaking at the main function held at the Conference hall of Manipur Secretariat in Imphal, Chief Minister Shri Okram Ibobi singh said we are proud to be a responsible citizen of this country. Although the state has a limited resource and financial crunch, the pace of development is advanced to a commendable stage. He said, the state is among the leading states of the country in some priority sectors.
As Manipur is one of the most difficult state in the country, the state top the list among the states in Health and Power sectors. It top the list in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) this year also. Power sector is also becoming a role model in the country.
The Chief Minister said, many more sectors has to be developed in the coming years so that Manipur can be a developed state. Employment generation should be one of the priority area where we can give employment to the educated unemployed youths in the state. Appealing to all the Underground Organizations to come forward on the negotiable table to resolve the outstanding issues, he said, all impending issues could be solved.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Gaikhangam while delivering the gathering recalled the remarkable day when the then prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced the conversion of Manipur into a full fledged state of the Indian Union. He said, there has been a sea change in all front in the state for the last 45 years. The pitch of development is encouraging as compared with the developed states in the country. In order to attain the status of a developed state by 2020, all the stakeholders should co-operate each other in the coming days.
Clamming insurgency as one of the most difficult hurdle in development, he stressed the need to address the issues seeking all possible means. Shri Gaikhangam applead to all the UG Groups to come forward and engage talks with the government.
Chief Secretary O. Nabakishore Singh, Director General of Police L. M Khaute and other senior officials participated among others in the function.
