2nd Dr L Bhagyachandra Drama Festival 2011 at Manipur Dramatic Union

Popular theatre group, "Manipuri Ensemble" presented its latest production, "Sanyasi" at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy on July 31 2011.
With nine different theatre groups slated to participate, the 2nd Dr L Bhagyachandra Drama Festival will be held at Manipur Dramatic Union from September 12 to 18 . Organised by Theatre Mirror, the festival will be held in commemoration of 46 years of the theatre group's service.
Speaking at a press conference held in this regard at the group's Haobam Marak office, festival director and president of Theatre Mirror, Wareppa Naba said that the show would start at 3 pm everyday. He added that prior to theatre shows, cultural presentations like wari and pena would entertain the audience starting 2 pm everyday.

o Hueiyen Lallong Irilbung,
o Manipuri Ensemble,
o Yumjao Lairembi Dramatic and Cultural Union,
o Artist Touring Drama Party,
o Royal Theatrical Club,
o Cosmo, MDU and
o Theatre Mirror
are the groups which would present its productions during the festival, Naba added.
On the concluding day of the festival, he said that noted theatre director H Kanhailal would be honoured with a cash award of Rs 20, 000, a citation, memento and shawl for his contribution to theatre movement. Wareppa Naba further said that a rally for artistes and performers would be taken out from Pishumthong to MDU on the opening day.
An honorarium of Rs 5000 each would be given to all the participating artistes of the festival, he said adding that Rs 2000 would be given to the artistes who take part in the rally. Saying that Health Minister L Jayantakumar is a patron of the festival, Wareppa Naba added that the festival is being organised without any monetary assistance from any agency or the Government.
