CALL FOR PAPERS
Empowerment of women has been a central concern and endeavor in countries across the world
through many phases of human history. In recent centuries this issue has become more urgent
than ever before, as self-consciousness about inequality—this self-consciousness itself can be
seen as an index of empowerment—has driven societies to address this matter with renewed
vigor.
Gender inequality, however, is so old and deeply entrenched in all aspects of society, it is
a system so sophisticated and resilient, that it evolves and adapts with changes in social
structures, remaining ever more elusive and adamant. For this reason, it needs to be confronted
simultaneously at numerous fronts.
Enlightened and progressive societies strive tirelessly to
effect changes towards this end through reforms in law and governance, through people’s
movements, through media agencies, through scientific and technological innovations, through
education and awareness, through increase in social and economic infrastructure.
This conference aims at bringing together voices to elucidate the nature of various efforts at
empowering women, as well as the relative success and limitations of these measures. At the
same time, women's role in peace-building exercise is being dealt with as a special focus in this Conference.
The conference also aims to explore the role of women in handling disasters both manmade and natural.
