18th edition of Techniche a ‘big hit’
IIT Guwahati witnessed its eighteenth edition of annual techno management festival Techniche. The chief guest of inauguration ceremony was Air Marshal C Hari Kumar, AOC-in-C of Eastern Air Command and the stage was decorated by the Prof. Goutam Biswas, Director of Guwahati, Prof. Chandan Mahanta, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Karuna Kalita, Chairman of Technical Board and many other delegates.
The curtain has finally fallen after four days of a symposium of events of various facets ranging from technology to management, which took part from Sept 1st – 4th have pulled a massive crowd of around 25,000 people that included a large number of students belonging to around 300 academic institutions of country.
This edition of Techniche, aimed at providing a platform and exposure to the latest talents of country’s students. Students from higher secondary standards to PG standard were able to take part in these programs.
18th edition of Techniche has been a plethora for a large spectrum of technological events. Several events had been taking part throughout the day in various parts of IIT Guwahati. Some of the highlight events which have attracted a large crowd are described here under. It began with a keynote lecture by Mr. Bijay Bora, COO and Co-Founder, Zaloni and followed by P R Ramesh from Deloitte and Kamal Bali, Volvo etc., the lectures were a part of Insustrial Conclave.
Meanwhile the most awaited Lecture series from the Nobel laureate in Chemistry, Prof. Ada Yonath has enlightened many young minds. Several projects from various organizations such as Helicopters from Indian Air force, Army, Railways have been on display for the audience at exhibitions.
Technothlon has brought to Guwahati, the top 250 teams comprising 9, 10, 11 and 12 grade students, to bring them exposure to the science and technology here in IITs and the winners among them are being sent to NASA Space centre in USA. And for the college-goers, TechOlympics, curriculum based competitions like Cantilever Design, Cryptophobia, Electrifying Business, Code of faith etc., were a huge success. And as every year this edition of Model United Nations, had wonderful committee sessions with astounding feedback.
Blood donation camp carried on with its social activities and the number of contributors was rich. Startup show case was organized as a part of Corporate Module, which showcased some of the promising startups of the near future. Several Robotic events were held, some of which include Escalade Mains, Robowars, Robocalypse, Desert Strike, Nautilus. Especially, Nautilus is a brilliantly designed under-water robotics championship.
There was never lack of fun with Funniche, as always this edition also had various fun activities like Lan gaming, Live CS, Human foosball etc., Several workshops such as Brain Controlled Robotics, Ethical Hacking and Vehicle Overhauling etc., were held.
At the dusk there were informative tech-talks by Carlo Palazzani, Ferrari Car Designer and Diwakar Vaish, A-SET Robotics. After the sunset was mind-bogglingly great with loads of fun from Mark Nizer’s 4D show and Clinton Cerejo’s delightful performance.
