National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 State topper Samananda Yumnam has pledged that he would serve the poor and needy with dedication when he becomes a qualified medical practitioner. Significantly this was Samananda's first attempt.
Talking with The Sangai Express, Samananda s/o Yumnam Kameshwar and Yumnam (O) Angoubi of Moirang Kampu Sajeb Leikai said that he appeared in the NEET (UG) 2020 as a student of COMET and he felt elated in securing first position among the candidates from Manipur. He expressed keen desire to pursue medical studies in Delhi in the company of students from other States.
"Being born to a poor family, I experienced many difficulties whenever any of our family members fell ill in meeting expenses and this bitter experience always motivated me to become a medical student", Samananda said.
He said that he is determined to serve the poor and needy with dedication as and when he comes a qualified medical practitioner. In the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and the hardships being faced by all sections of society, the Government has been consistently advocating through different media that everyone must wear face masks and abide by SOP.
But the Government never explained how one should wear masks and sanitise oneself, Samananda said. People's failure to wear mask properly and not using mask at all have been contributing significantly to transmission of COVID-19, he remarked while expressing keen desire for the Government to carry out extensive awareness campaigns on the crucial importance of complying with the SOP.
For his spectacular success in NEET (UG) 2020, Samananda gave credits to teachers of COMET and his family members. Kameshwar confided that he did not believe his son would emerge as the State topper in NEET (UG) 2020 even though he was confident that Samananda would sail through the entrance test.
Saying that he was delighted on seeing the remarkable success of his son, Kameshwar assured that he would extend all possible support towards fulfilling the goal of his son.
COMET Managing Director Irom Umakanta said that they are proud of Samananda's spectacular performance who secured 661 marks out of 720 in the NEET(UG) 2020 .
