The Honourable Chief Minister Manipur
(Through the Hon'ble IPR Minister, Govt. of Manipur)
Subject: Request for lifting ban on Internet for media houses and National Highway clearance for transporting press materials.
Respected Sir,
With utmost respect, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) would like to lay down the following few lines for your kind intervention and necessary actions.
That, the ban on the internet services in Manipur due to the present law and order situations has severely impacted the working of all media houses, both print and electronics. Over and above this, the print media is running out of news print and other printing materials due to blockade of the National Highways of Manipur by agitators.
As of now several truckloads of newsprint are stuck at Mao. We therefore request you to kindly direct your officials to immediately reconnect the internet service which was available at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Govt. of Manipur and Manipur Press Club and also to lift the internet ban on media houses- at least those with lease lines connection to enable them to provide services to the general public as usual.
The AMWJU and EGM have decided to cease work from 18th May 2023 onward if no visible action is taken immediately.
We understand the difficulty that the public might face due to non publication/ broadcasting of news is likely to cause at time such as these.
We truly regret the outcome of our decision, but this government must take the responsibility for the same. We hope you and your government will understand the situation and act accordingly.
President
All Manipur Working Journalist Union
President
Editors' Guild Manipur
