Condemns the incident at Chalwa

The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (Liangmai Naga Students' Union, Manipur) vehemently condemns the blatant incident that happened in the wee hours of the morning 5th September, 2023 where a Liangmai Leader Mr. Hotngambou Zuinamai S/o Akongbou Zuinamai, 56 years, Ex-Chairman of Lenglong Village, Tamenglong District was life attempt to murder in a broad daylight by the Kuki miscreants so called KRA.

On the fateful day, Mr. Hotngambou Zuinamai and his lady wife traveled in a Bolero-up towards Imphal carrying veggies for sale. While reaching Chalwa a Kuki Village, around 7:30AM two Kuki miscreants came on a Bike and halted the vehicle and demanded a sum of money as a tax. In the middle of their negotiations Mr. Zuinamai was punched on his face since he was not in a position to afford their demands.

Then his nose was bleeding profusely and again they hitted him on his cheeck when he mentioned that such assault and illegally taxation are condemned by UNC, Naga Hohos and LNC that they claimed themselves as KRA and absconded. On further reaching at Kangpokpi, around 12:00 noon Mr. Zuinamai was again halted and assaulted by two Kuki insurgents of UKLF and demanded forcefully Rs. 2000/- as Tax.

While the Liangmai Naga people have been tirelessly trying hard to salvage the overwhelming consequences of the civil war that has disrupted everyday life and also sharing empathetic emotions and fervently praying for divine intervention, regardless of whichever community, we are totally shocked and have taken offence over the evil and deliberate of physical assault and harrasment that belonged to a Liangmai Naga on 5th September, 2023.

While it is pertinent to note that, the Kuki people have been living in our Liangmai Naga land. And on multiple occassions Zeliangrong commuters are facing several consequences extortion demand in the name of tax to daily wages farmer by demanding handsome amount of money even to the extend of carrying Cabbage, Potatoes, Chillies, Brinjal and insulting the Ngari (Fermented Fish) transporters by many Kuki insurgent in IT Road areas and Highways. Whereas, the Kukis have been taking undue advantage and creating continuous ruckus in the IT Road and highways time and again is a questionable act.

The fact that the Liangmai Naga is one of the majority tribe among Nagas and a peace loving community settled across in different district of Manipur namely Senapati, Tamenglong and Kangpokpi. While the Liangmai tribe even settled across in different states of Nagaland and Assam. That, the Liangmai community raises a questions as to whether the intention of the Kuki was a malice to personally target Liangmai Naga?

The Liangmai CSOs explicitly warns that it will not remain a mute spectator to this insidious behaviour and the undersigned demands that stringent action is befitted upon the Kukis and justice be delivered only through the Naga highest customary laws by the Naga Apex body.
