Assam Rifles celebrates 183rd Raising Day

The Assam Rifles add yet another milestone to its glorious and splendid history as it celebrates its 183rd Raising Day on 24rd March 2018.

Raised in 1835, with just 750 combatants, as the Cachar Levy, the Assam Rifles Force has metamorphosed into 46 Battalions and today is the oldest Paramilitary Force. The Assam Rifles also has the distinction of being the highest decorated Force in the Nation.

During the past 183 years, the Force has rendered yeomen service through gallant acts, fearless commitment and sacrifices.

Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, Director General Assam Rifles conveyed his greetings and best wishes to all ranks of Assam Rifles and applauded their contribution towards creating a conducive and secure environment in complete North East region.

He exhorted the force to strive for the well being and safety of the people at all times. Fondly called “Friends of North-East”, Assam Rifles has contributed not only to the security and peace in the region, but has also aided development activities especially in the border areas.

Be it sports, culture events, youth empowerment or health of people, Assam Rifles has been at the fore front of all activities.

On its raising day, DG Assam Rifles takes the opportunity to reassure the people of the region that the force is committed to the well being, safety and security of the people from the North East.
