Mission Myamar Phase III for Smile Train and Key Hole Surgery at Monywa General Hospital, Sagaing

The 14 members of Mission Myanmar Phase III have returned home after successful completion of free 32 Key Hole and 27 Cleft Lip & Palate surgeries at Monywa General Hospital, Sagaing. The surgery camp was jointly organized by Govt of Sagaing, Indian Consul General, Mandalay, Smile Train Shija Cleft Project and AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India).
Mission Myanmar team was flagged off by his Excellency, the Governor of Manipur, Shri VK Duggal on 17th March 2014. After arrival on 19th evening at Monywa, free camp and workshop was conducted from 20th – 23rd March 2014.
His Excellency, Chief Minister of Sagaing, U Thar Aye, Union Minister of Health, Myanmar, Dr.Pe Thet Khin and Indian Consul General, Dr.Nanda Kumar, visited the ongoing camp on 22nd March 2014 and appreciated and encouraged the Mission Myanmar team for their good work. Team leader, Dr.Palin Kh, CMD Shija Hospitals expressed his gratefulness to the visiting dignitaries and also the hospital staff for their tremendous support of the camp.
Indian Consul General has invited Shija to extend services in the division of Mandalay and his Excellency, Chief Minister of Sagaing has also advised the team to do more such services in Kale in future.
Shija has proposed 3 months training on Key hole Surgery and Critical Care for surgeons and nurses of Myanmar under Shija Overseas Training Program. Accommodation would be provided and training fee will be waived off. For the surgeons of Myanmar AMASI is considering scholarship during the training program at Shija.
Dr. Palin has emphasized on the impact of Mission Myanmar in building the goodwill between the two nations in general and Sagaing and Manipur in general. Shija is ready to extend the medical services that Myanmar needs the most. These efforts are in alignment of Shija Hospital’s mission ‘to be a premium and leading brand in healthcare services in South East Asia, recognized by our customers for our holistic approach, technological advancement and personal care.
It may as well be noted that the preceding Mission Myanmar projects have also been remarkably successful. 103 free cleft lip and palate surgeries were done in Mission Myanmar Phase I and 179 free cataract blindness surgeries were done in Mission Myanmar Phase II.
