Sandrembee

SANDREMBEE

'Sandrembee' is an imphal based Extreme metal/ alternative rock band. Formed in 2006 when the bandmates were still in school. They started out as a slow rock band. It was a particular guitar riff that came out of the band's gutarist Chingkhei which suited the humming sound of Eroz, the band's vocalist, that led to the formation of the band one winter evening. That particular riff and the humming later became 'Slow flowing river', the band's first ever single.

The bandmates Eroz, Chingkhei, Themis and Chickubi Lourembam (ex-Sandrembee) are all schoolmates of Manipur Public School, Imphal and they have been friends since their bicycle days except for Richardson, the drummer of the band who happens to be Chingkhei's cousin.

Since the bandmates studies in different colleges in different parts of the country, jamming and composing songs have always been a difficult task for them as their college breaks were not at the same time. It took them a year to record their first single 'Slow flowing river'.

It was in 2007, a year after it was composed. They recorded their second single ' The revolt ' a year later in 2008. Their first gig was at the 'Metronome Concert' in 2009. They third single 'Chaotic theory' was recorded in 2010.

EVOLVING PROCESS(GENRE) :

Sandrembee has never been confined into a particular genre. They started out as a Slow rock band with 'Slow flowing river'. But they wanted to experiment new things so they evolved into a Thrash metal band with 'The Revolt'. With their appetite for experimentation still growing, they evolved into a Metalcore band with their single ' Chaotic theory'.

And now with their debut album, they have evolved into a Extreme metal/Alternative rock band, keeping their love for both genre intact. And as stated by them, their experimentation/evolving process will continue.

INFLUENCES:

Their early influences came from bands like Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, Motorhead, Whitelion etc. But with their evolving process going on,their influences also evolved. They are currently influenced by extreme metal bands like Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Protest the Hero, Killswitch engage, Cannibal corpse, Napalm death, and by alternative indie bands like The Smiths, The Raveonettes, The Cure, Bands of horses, Weepies, Enya etc.

Their local influences came from videos like ' Waiting' by Kradle of beats, 'Angel lady' by Dazzle city and songs like 'women' by Phoenyx and Postmark's album 'Stamp on you' . Its these local influences that made them realise the need for their own original compositions instead of covers.

DEBUT ALBUM MISCALCULATION AND THE COSMIC CATASTROPHE :

Sandrembee's debut album is a double album consisting of two parts. 'The Cosmic Catastrophe' is an Extreme metal side. Lyrics are based on the socio-political scene of the state. Issues like Gun culture of the state, rape and molestation cases of North eastern girls in cities like Delhi, Indigenous people becoming a minority, protesting the so called moral police banning the use of alcohols are also expressed through their lyrics. There might be some explicit language content in the lyrics but the band hope it will be taken in a optimistic way by the listeners and is not aimed at creating havoc or hatred.

The 'Miscalculation' side is an alternative/indie rock album. The theme and lyrics are all based on human emotions and feelings like friendship, love, mother's love etc.

There's a meitei language track called 'Koubru' which is a patriotic song influenced by a local folk song known as 'Yakairol'. Their aim is to create a patriotic feeling to the masses.
