Urmila's first step towards the glamorous world of beauty pageant was when her aunt Binata and her mother Sobharani make her a contender at the Sakhenbi Ningol 2013 beauty pageant. At her first competition, she was adjudged Best Discipline subtitle. She was groomed for the beauty pageant at the Halley’s Model. She became a popular face among the models after her stint at the Kanglei Model fashion show.

She aims to become a teacher and become a mentor for young children in the field of education. She wants teach the children as they are the pillars of future. She wish the pillars be shaped in a way the society would become a better place to live.

Her mother, a person behind Urmila’s success, is always ready to help her. Her mother encourages Urmila besides other family members.

Taking part in Garnier white fashion weekend in Guwahati, taking part as a showstopper for Keith Jackson in Mumbai India Intimate fashion week in Mumbai after becoming Miss Manipur was all because of the support of her mother, family members and the guidance of Halley Laithangbam.

Now, she is among the contestant from all over india in Femina Miss India finalist representing Manipur state.
