"Miraculous Cancer Curing Plant of Chawilien contains Alkaloids and Steroids"
- Organic Chemistry, Reader L. Warjeet

By Bachaspatimayum Sunzu *

In a rare health development in Manipur, an 83 year old man, who had been a Cancer patient himself, has become the hope of many Cancer patients.

Many advanced-stage Cancer Patients as well as patients of other ailments are claiming that a visit to the 83 year man, popular as Pa-Chawilien and drinking his green medicine, plant-extract, have brought about a marked improvement in their health conditions, with some even claiming to have been totally cured of Cancer.

NE TV visited the Saikot village in Churachandpur district in Manipur to meet the man and spoke also to the Organic Chemistry Reader, who is investigating the organic components of the plant to ascertain the safety health issues, surrounding the latest health development in the Manipur.

Chawilien Cancer Medicine Research Agency, in Saikot in Manipur's Churachandpur district has become the talk of the State. These people, drawing from all over the State have all come here hearing stories of advanced-stage Cancer Patients recovering from their ailments by the healing power of the 83 year old man, named Chawilien.

Pa-Chawilien's residence in the sleepy hamlet of Saikot has now been transformed into a bustling township 2 months ago after words spread of his healing power, especially with Cancer patients. People from all works of life and religious backgrounds thronged his place for a prayer session with him and for the magical green medicine made for the plant, known locally in Hmar dialect as Damdwai plant.

Judging by the size of the crowd, who have all come here in the hope of the miraculous recovery, Chawilien diverted from his usual practice of individual prayer session and instead did a group prayer for recovery. After the prayer session his green medicine was distributed free of cost.

Inside his small house, a boy who could just about stand by himself, after a bouts of prayers and two sips of the green medicine, he could walk to the amazement of all inside the house and in front of the NE TV camera.

Speaking for the first to a satellite channel Chawilien revealed that he himself had Cancer on his Right ear. The swelling and the pain was so much that there seemed no hope for him. He claimed that, 2 years ago, God revealed to him that he should drink the Damdwai plant extract."

I should have been afraid to drink it as there was no way to be sure that it was safe to drink as nobody had drunk it before me. I had to drink it as I had full faith on the words of God so I gulp it down. Instantly the aching on my ear stopped. The swelling on my ear took sometime to recede but in just 2 month it was gone completely." says Chawilien.

Chawilien started giving out his medicine to those who seek it only after God ordered him to, he claims. Outside Chawilien's house rows and rows of people lined up to have Pa-Chawilien prayer for them and receive their share of the green medicine for their ailments ranging from Cancer, Asthma, Piles and even HIV/AIDS that Chawilien's healing power is claimed to have cured.

Bimola Devi who is a captain with Salvation Army and a Gospel Volunteerat the Agency said," Everyday people from all over Manipur come in thousand to Pa-Chawilien for treating their ailments, we're helping him with spread the gospel and in preparing and distributing the medicine."

The development at Saikot offers an interesting avenue for investigation for the Organic Chemistry Reader, Laitonjam Warjeet, who has been behind a number of studies for identification of organic components of medicine plants of the State. Under his guidance, a team of research scholars are carrying out investigations to determinate the organic component of the plant.

With extraction process completed, Separation and Isolation process are currently underway in the organic Lab by using hot and cold extract method.

According the Warjeet, the Damdwai plant, whose scientific name could be Croton Caudatus Geisel ( yet to be verified), is a rare plant that preliminary investigations indicate high content of Alkaloids, Steroids, Saponins and other valid components that are generally considered anti-cancer drugs.

For the people who have heard of the healing power of Chawilien's medicine, ascertaining the organic components of the plant is immaterial to them.

Their only hope is - Chawilien's green medicine works on them and cures them like this lady who firmly believed her breast cancer is cured after consuming Chawilien's medicine." In 2005, I was diagnosed of breast-Cancer by the doctor. Besides the Cancer on my left breast, I had swelling on my hand and on the neck too. Seeing no other hope, I went to Chawilien and he prayed for me and gave me the medicine to drink. After drinking his medicine, I've no more pain and the swelling have all gone. I've even regained my strength and I could work like before. What remained is only a small lump on my left breast."

'Miracle' plant from Saikot

The magic Damdwai leaves whose components are suppose to be working against Cancer unlike any other drugs are brought in bulk to Chawilien's places from preparation of the medicine. Everyday, 20 sacks of the Damdwai leaves are needed to prepare the medicine for the day's requirement.

The leaves are cleaned and twigs separated after which they are chops into bits for pounding. After pounding, the leave-juice is filtered and is ready for consumption. All these people are working on voluntarily with only one thing in their mind - Curing the Sick. This becomes amply clear when one learns that no price is fixed for the mug full of medicine provided to each and every one who comes to Chawilien Cancer Medicine Research Agency.

Only donation boxes are placed for people who wish to donate. Chawilien said, " I cannot fix the price for the medicine as it is God-given. At the same time, as there are large numbers of people who come for the medicine, a lot of people are working, day and night on volunteer basis and I've to provide them fooding. It's not possible for me to feed them alone. Even the leaves cost Rs 200 per cement bag."

While Chawilien seeks only donation to meet his daily expenses, seeing the hordes of patients coming for the medicine, the small village of Saikot has turned into a bustling township with rows and rows of stalls, selling the green medicine for a price.

For many families, this is proving to be a good livelihood, as Presila, a 15 year old girl, who is on vacation and selling the green medicine in plastic bottles indicate. It is miraculous that Saikot could be the answer to cancer cure.

Earlier Saikot was just another sleepy hamlet but now it is like a small town, buslting with activities. For the poor people of the village, selling the plants, the leaves and prepared green medicine is proving to be a good livelihood option".

Churachandpur has now become medical hot-spots for the patients of the State. Everyday 5 to 10 thousand people thronged Chawilien Cancer Medicine Research Agency. Some, standing in the queue from 4 am in the morning on holidays. But what is surprising is that the unprecedented health development in Saikot in Churachandpur district in Manipur has not attracted the attention of the State Health Department.

According to the preliminary studies by the Research Scholars of MU, the plant, because of its alkaloid and steroid components is unadvisable for children as well as pregnant women. Loose motion, indigestion, and some corrosive side-effects on the skin are also notice says Manipur University Organic Chemistry Reader, Laitonjam Warjeet. Warjeet feels that ascertaining the components are utmost important to avoid health complications.

Even as MU scholars are yet to completely identify the organic component, this is not stopping the people from seeking Chawilien's green medicine for their ailments.

While the stories of recovery of Cancer patients are encouraging, regulating and monitor the proceeding in Saikot maybe necessary to avoid health complications in future?" given the preliminary finding of it corrosive effects on the skin and the presence of Alkaloids and Steroids.
