India-Vietnam Youth Dialogue 2018 on 15th June 2018 at New Delhi

Centre for Vietnam Studies in association with Confederation of Young Leaders and Embassy of Socialist Republic of Vietnam organized India- Vietnam Youth Dialogue on 15th June, 2018.

The Chief Guest of this occasion was Shri K.L. Alphons, Union Minister for Tourism, Government of India. He focused on how Vietnam has always been cited as a great example for the world to fight the biggest colonial powers. The world needs to be united to fight the new emerging colonial masters. The Minister was also impressed by the increasing percentage of Indian tourists in Vietnam and he equally encouraged Vietnamese tourists to visit India, as the country has to offer some of the best tourist destinations in the world.

H. E. Ton Sinh Thanh, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in his Special Address highlighted on how Vietnam has always been an important nation in South-East Asia. He briefed on the twenty long years of the Vietnamese war and struggle and how the country has progressed over the years in terms of trade and investment, foreign relations as well as tourism. The Ambassador also stressed on how the issue of South China Sea stands as a major area of challenge for the country’s foreign policy. He also glorified the 2000 years old traditional relationship of India and Vietnam.

The session was followed by Special Remarks by the Guest of Honour, Shri K. G. Suresh, Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication. He stressed on the creation of Hindu-Buddhist circuit to promote tourism between India and Vietnam. He also briefed that the Act East Policy provides a greater platform for the ever-blossoming India-Vietnam friendship and cooperation.

Dr. Ash Narain Roy, Director, Institute of Social Sciences, chaired the session and threw light on a beautiful quotation made by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, that is, “I have met 18 million youth, and each wants to be unique”. Dr. Roy himself made a very fascinating statement, stating that age does not matter when it is all about energy and synergy.

Dr. Sonu Trivedi, Honorary Director of Centre for Vietnam Studies, New Delhi introduced the participants about the Centre for Vietnam Studies and focused on the past and the future activities of the Centre. She also stressed on the need for strengthening cooperation between India and Vietnam and the lessons to be learnt from mutual experiences.

The Dialogue ended with an open House Discussion and Quiz on KNOW VIETNAM which received overwhelming response from the participants. India and Vietnam’s cordial relations from the past shows how both the countries stood by each other through thick and thin, and now it is the younger generation to take the stand to take this friendship forward. This is a lesson learnt from the India-Vietnam Youth Dialogue June 2018.

Centre for Vietnam Studies, New Delhi, India established after its announcement by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam H. E. Tran Dai Quang on 4th March 2018 during his Special Address at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi seeks to provide a platform for the scholars to engage in the past, present and future of India-Vietnam relations.

Initially launched as a Centre, it is expected to grow and evolve as a major interactive research forum for sharing ideas and exchange of scholars between India and Vietnam, organizing lectures, panel discussions, workshops, conferences and associate emerging scholars working on India-Vietnam relations both in India and abroad. The Centre envisages active association of all the stakeholders for mutual exchange of ideas and dissemination of information about the archetypical relationship between India and Vietnam encompassing centuries and beyond.

Mandate of the Centre covers a wide range of issues ranging from historical and cultural ties to strengthening trade and investment; defense, strategic and maritime cooperation to non-traditional security issues; political and diplomatic engagements to cooperation in Science Technology and education; development partnership and regional value chains to culture, commerce and connectivity.
