Refresher Course in English & Comparative Literature for Teachers at NEHU
The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre and the Department of English , NEHU, Shillong are jointly organizing a Refresher Course on English and Comparative Literature on the theme “Literatures, Languages and Cultures: South-Asia in Comparative Perspective”, w.e.f. 19 the March 2018 to 8th of April , 2018.
The Inaugural Function held on the 19th of April 2018 in the HRDC Seminar Hall, NEHU was presided over by Prof. Sukalpa Bhattacharjee, Head, Department of English NEHU Shillong. Prof. J. Sanyal from the University of Calcutta gave the Inaugural speech.
Prof. Rakesh Mohan, Director, UGC-HRDC, NEHU, emphasized on the importance of Refresher Courses in general for the Career Advancement of the teachers but most importantly he pointed out that participants should be benefitted after attending this Refresher Course.
Prof. Sanyal emphasized on the challenges posed by such a theme to canonical disciplinary practices and the need for translating one culture into the other, while Prof. Bhattacharjee indicated towards how such a theme would destabilize binaries such as high and low cultures, literary and non- literary , centres and peripheries.Others who spoke on the occasion include Course Coordinators Dr. Suranjana Choudhury who welcomed the participants and Resource persons and Mr. Lang Kupar K. War, who introduced the theme of the Refresher Course.
