Looking Ahead
Balipara Foundation Awards proudly presents the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum, 2017 & 5th Balipara Foundation Awards to be held in Guwahati, Assam, India
on 2nd and 3rd November, 2017 at Vivanta by Taj.
At the Eastern Himalayan NaturenomicsTM Forum, 2017, the conversations will revolve around the theme of Community Conservation and Botany. The Forum will explore the role of Botany and Communities in the Conservation of ecosystems through the lens of NaturenomicsTM, Innovation and Information addressing the challenges of social inequality through the concept of Re- ruralisation.
This year’s Forum seeks to provide a platform to explore the importance of conservation in our world of botany, to understand the role of the Guardians of Creation and how they are engaging in conservation in a way that supports their local economies and livelihoods and, exploring reforms required in governance & policy that can have an impact on making conservation more participatory, hence, more effective.
Ranjit Barthakur, Founder Trustee of Balipara Foundation says- “Communities in the Eastern Himalayas continue to nurture and restore the hidden treasures of the Eastern Himalayas through years of learning from Nature. There is a wealth of knowledge that needs to be preserved and learning from these communities has been our inspiration. Through the platform of the Forum, in the Eastern Himalayas and globally, we need to recognize the role of Communities and Botany because this will shape the future and success of our conservation efforts.”
Communities, Universities, Government, Non-Profits, Donors and Media Professionals from around the world will engage in a dialogue to explore business models, policy reforms, technology, etc., to identify drivers and innovative ideas for community conservation.
The Asian Elephant will continue to be the mascot of our efforts, but by broadening the conversation and expanding the stakeholders at the table we hope to create a larger conservation footprint and start discussing possible solutions to these issues. The Eastern Himalayan NaturenomicsTM Forum, 2016 announced the launch of a unique virtual platform, Elephant Country- Asian Elephant Secretariat - a robust platform of authentic data and shared resources for peer to peer flow of information and education for community and elephant conservation.
The Forum picks up where the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum, 2016 left off and aims to strategize for Conservation through Social Mobility, channel human aspirations, Optimize Efficiency of Conservation through Governance & Policy Reforms, start a campaign and get “people/community” involved, discuss business models for funding, technology and innovation in Conservation and direct its focus beyond “Single Species (Elephants)” to include “Conservation” in general. The Eastern Himalayan NaturenomicsTM Forum, 2017 will bring together the disciplines of Sociology, Policy & Technology in context with Conservation.
5th Balipara Foundation Awards will recognize and honour Ecological Champions, who are working tirelessly to create Social, Economic and Environmental impact in protecting the very essential natural resources and restoring the pristine beauty of the Eastern Himalayas. These environmental entrepreneurs will receive a Social Impact Recognition Citation which comes with a Certificate of Commendation and a contribution to the Organization or Individual from our Social Impact Recognition Fund.
