Oinam Dilip biography
Oinam Dilip has a degree in fine arts from the prestigious College of
Arts, New Delhi. As a young kid, he grew up in a small town in Manipur
winning numerous art competitions in the state as well as national
level. For the last 12 years, he has been based in New Delhi
functioning from his home studio. Upto now he has done more than 20
successful group shows .
A prolific artist known for his larger than life solitary figures,
mostly that of a girl, a woman or a couple, predominantly drawn from
mythology, he loves to play with a colour palette that primarily
comprises earthy, bold red and coppery browns. The multi-layered,
complex and painstaking treatments in his works enhance the element of
drama.
Dilip documents his narrations with pictorial supplements, and very
firmly transfers his own conception of thinking underlying and
submerged. The figures in his compositions are often very idealistic
in terms of their appearance and attire. He bears a very conventional
thinking process in terms of defying idealistic beauty. He very
strongly demands that a girl’s defence is her best attack. In other
words we can say that a girl’s serene adoration is her best expression
whereas the males are provided with subtle face and lean body. Dilip
believes that males are provided with a nature where their
understanding about relations, responsibility and calmness is
something which requires being on the priority. So finding a common
share of love and expression is quite common in his works.
The solo exhibition titled ‘Pa & Pi’ will bring out the best
collective works from his entire transitions. An artist feels that
there are complexities in life and we all encounter it as we grow. But
Dilip never says that paintings are storytelling tools which he
deliberately proves in some of his paintings. He very kindly draws a
line of sentiment and rattle innocence in his paintings where the
hopeful eye of a kid strikes up.
