Imphal, March 23 2009: The identity of the UG suspect killed by a combined force of Imphal West Police Commandos and 16 Assam Rifles on the night of March 20 at Kangchup Ching has been identified as one Pebam Gege (26) s/o Nabachandra of Sagolband Thingom Leikai.

Contending that the deceased was an innocent person, a public meeting was held today and along with formation of a JAC has lined up various agitations in protest against the killing.

The body is still lying unclaimed at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital. On the other hand, the body of Akoijam Priyobarta of Mongsangei who was reportedly killed by Imphal West Police Commandos during an encounter at Langol on March 15 has been taken by the family members after post-mortem examination at RIMS today.

The JAC formed in connection with the killing had launched various agitations including calling of State wide general strike, though no agreement had been reached with the Government in this connection.

The JAC has warned of continuing the agitation if even the body has been claimed until the demands of the JAC placed before the Government are fulfilled.
