Imphal, July 06 2009: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has strongly condemned the act of the police in resorting to batoning the demonstrators who marched towards Sajiwa Jail demanding the release of students detained under NSA.

Denouncing the unresponsive attitude of the government to the democratic protest and demand for the unconditional release of the students who have been detained under NSA, publicity and propaganda secretary of DESAM, KC Ibomcha pointed out that the government is inviting violence form of protests.

KC Ibomcha also expresses gratitude to the participants of sit in protests and rallies demanding the release of the students and protesting the detention of the students under NSA.

It further appealed the civil society organisations not to take the matter lightly saying that the losers will neither be the arrested students nor DESAM alone, but the civil society organisations of the state at large.
