Condemned over the killings of migrant labourers

Imphal, March 03 2009: Condemnation over the killings of migrant labourers has poured in from sundry civil organisations today.

The Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) programme coordinator, Namdithiu Panmei in a press statement condemned the killing of non-locals by unidentified gunmen while urging the government to book the the culprits involved in the killings and award them fitting punishment. Registering condemnation over the killing of migrant labourers, the Dialogue Forum, Imphal said that the rights of the migrant labourers must be respected as their rights are no different from ours while also adding that the Manipuri brethren living outside must also be considered.

The Centre for Social Development (CSD), Manipur said that killing such innocent migrant workers cannot bring solution to the problems while denouncing the killing of migrant labourers by unidentified gunmen.

The Women Action for Development, in a press statement signed by its project coordinator, Babycha Mangsatabam said that the killing of migrant workers does not make any sense and it will delay the growth of development while condemning the killing of migrants.
