Imphal, March 06, 2010: Suspected underground activists attempted to kidnap Adhayaksha of Imphal East Zilla Parishad tonight, and shot the husband of the Adhayaksha injuring him when he resisted.

The injured husband has been admitted to RIMS hospital.

The incident occurred tonight at about 8 pm at the house of the Adhayaksha, Pungshubam Bimola (51) at Achanbigei Mayai Leikai under Heingang police station.

The injured husband of the Adhayaksha was identified as P Kunjo (52). Kunjo sustained bullet injury when hit by a bullet in his left abdomen.

The bullet exited on the back.

The Adhayaksha, Bimola also sustained injuries in the head and other part of the body when hit by the butt of the gun.

The attempt to kidnap the Adhayaksha could have been related with extortion demands as some UG organisations were demanding percentage from the funds released for implementation of various schemes under Imphal East Zilla Parishad.
