Imphal, June 22 2009: DESAM is a student body campaigning for bringing quality education in the state and the body is not an underground group stated the protestors demanding release of the five students detained under NSA after they were arrested in wake of killing of the professor, Md Islamuddin.

Demanding the release of the students, sit-in protests were staged at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi, kongba Kshetri Leikai Kongba Uchekon, Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai, Wangkhei Tokpam Mayai Leikai, Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak etc.
