Imphal, April 27: A suspected militant was shot dead in an encounter with troops of 57 Mountain Division at Boryangbi bridge in Bishnupur district in the wee hours of today.

According to a PIB (Defence Wing) statement, the troops launched a swift operation in the general area of Boryangbi on receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants.

The troops witnessed suspicious movement and when challenged to stop, the individual opened fire, claimed PIB and added that he was killed in retaliatory firing.

One 9 mm pistol with five live ammunition was recovered from the slain man.

Police said that the body has been deposited at RIMS morgue and added that he could be one Md Yunus Khan (22) of Lilong Hangamthabi.
