Imphal, August 09: A majot tragedy was averted when the troops of 5 Assam Rifles timely detected an IED which was later defused by bomb disposal squad in wee hours today in the presence of Jiri police, reports our Jiribam correspondent.

The IED was found planted at a culvert at Uchathol, Jiri.

Notably, the site where the said IED was planted is about 100 m from Ningsingkhul, a proposed bio-diversity park, where statues of Paona Brajabashi, Tikendrajit and Thangal General have been installed.
