Imphal, October 27 2009: Reacting to a police report of arresting an individual in connection with the slaying of Dr Binodkumar, the JACs of Rabina Devi and Ch Sanjit have demanded that identity of the accused person be established for the sake of transparency.

Taking note of the fact that police commandos are claiming arrest of one person from Khurai area, the JACs in a joint statement expressed that identity of the guilty should be made public instead of projecting a particular area in bad light.

The JACs are committed to follow any movement aimed at exposing and checking injustices and unwanted actions in the society, the statement said adding that apart from legal course of action against the guilty ones there is need for instant justice by the people so as to drive home the point to rogue persons that society cannot tolerate criminal activities as any cost.

Mourning the death of Dr Binodkumar, with the apparent cause being looting the money he possessed on the ill-fated day, the JACs called upon all organisations to authenticate the police claim of arresting the accused person so that further course of action could be taken up.

The JACs further expressed concern that contrary to the general perception of decline in violence in the aftermath of the July 23 incident, killings perpetrated by both State and non-state actors have escalated in the last few days.

However, the spate of killings will neither be able to divert the public attention nor could such violence dilute the people's movement against the SPF Government, it said.

Exhorting all concerned to dispel parochial attitude so as to check wanton killings and save future of Manipur through a united effort, it affirmed that movement against the SPF Government would persist till the people's demands are conceded.

The JACs also gave wake-up call to members of Senior Citizen for society whether the latter had abandoned its pledge to facilitate an amicable settlement to the issue arising out of the July 23 firing by police commandos.

It, however, urged the Senior Citizens to take into account sentiment of the general public instead of leap-frogging to any conclusion that could lead to embarrassing situation.
