Imphal, March 26 2009: Four Nagas have been killed in Assam's NC Hills area by the Dimasa people and injured many others in the last few days, according to the Zeliangrong Baudi.

Expressing great concern over the this act of aggression, killing and violence meted out by the Dimasa people against the Nagas in the North Cachar (NC) Hills in Assam, the Zeliangrong Baudi, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (ZB-AMN) has called for 'respect' from the Dimasa for peaceful co-existence in the area.

It also appealed the Governments of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland for taking up immediate measure and to extend all possible help.

ZB-AMN informed that the act of the Dimasa (Kachari) in the North Cachar Hills in Assam has affected atleast nine villages in the area viz.

Takluaram, P.Baureneu, Puateujam, Nrimbanglua, Hegualua, Heuwangbaram, Himraichak, N.Baureneu and Guiluang who have been driven out from their village and had to settle somewhere.

The press statement also informed that the villagers had to evacuate their villages after four of their villages were killed by the Dimasa in the past one week and many were critically injured and added that the ZB (AMN) has taken serious note of the condition.

K Ningtangpou, president of the Zeliangrong Baudi further informed the Naga people of the NC Hills have been settling there since time immemorial without any interference from neighbouring communities and that they are a peace loving people.

However, the act of the Dimasa against the people of the area, mostly the Zeliangrong community, has 'evil intention to drive out' the Nagas so that they could settle in the land of the Nagas in the NC Hills, alleged the president.

The president also asserted that the act of the Dimasa would have an ugly consequence unless the Dimasa do not come to their senses and stated the youths of the Nagas will be compelled to protect their own people and land in this juncture.

K Ningtangpou also informed that sheltering at safe places in Tousem area of Manipur and in some areas of Nagaland and that there was an immediate need for relief such as food, clothe and life saving medicines.
