UCM submits memorandum to the President

New Delhi, Dec 24: Close on the heels of scheduled meeting between NSCN (IM) chief, Mr.Muivah and interlocutors of government of India from 26th December onwards in Delhi, representatives of UCM led by Padmashree N.Khelchandra met His Excellency, President APJ Abdul Kalam and submitted a memorandum on the question of territorial integrity of Manipur at 1 pm today.

Other members of the UCM team included N.Mahendra Singh, retired professor, MU, Kh.

Ratan, General Secretary, Sapamcha Jadumani Singh, President and R.K Ranendrajit, Spokesman of UCM.

His Excellency gave the UCM a patient hearing for half an hour, R.K Ranendrajit said to media people in a news conference held at State Information Centre at New Delhi.

The memorandum raised the following demands:
1) By recognizing the unique historical position of the state of Manipur and also respecting the democratic aspirations of the people
a) grant greater autonomy (as per Schedule-A)
b) guarantee the territorial integrity and
c) provide sufficient means for faster economic development of the state of Manipur
2) Reaffirm the earlier assurance of not disturbing the existing territorial integrity of Manipur under any circumstances
3) Pass a parliamentary resolution effecting the protection of the existing territorial integrity of the State of Manipur as in the 1(b) above in the current session of the Parliament.

"Appointment has also been sought to meet Prime minister and leader of the opposition, Sonia Gandhi in a day or do," R.K Ranendrajit, Spokesman of the UCM told the reporters.
