Violence decried by AAMSU

Imphal, May 22: All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU), Nagaon District, Assam has condemned the violent incident which took place at North Cachar Hill district on May 15 in which 10 persons were killed including 4 Manipuris settling in Assam.

One Manipuri settling in Assam was also injured in the incident.

The student body convened a condolence meeting at Kashipur MV English School, Langka on May 15 with former president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam, Nagaon District Thoudam Babatombi in the chair.

The condolence meeting which was also attended by president of MSPA, NDC Th Parijat, senior citizen Kh Vishnu of Langka, president of AAMSU CC Silchar RK Santosh, advisor K Gulapi, AMSU president Khamba Laishram, UPF vice president Y Dhiren, NIPCO president Y Nabachandra, representative of Apunba Meira Paibi Lup among others adopted four resolutions.

The resolutions include demanding the Govt to pay ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakhs each to the next kins of the victims, providing suitable Govt jobs to the each of the bereaved family members along with construction of one house each and taking out a mass peace rally on May 28.While denouncing the alleged silence maintained by the Govt of Manipur on the issue as discriminatory attitude towards the Manipuris settling outside, AAMSU NDC has expressed gratitude to AMSU, UPF and NIPCO for having provided Rs 10,000 to each to the bereaved families and Rs 5,000 to the the injured.
