Imphal, May 15: With the Government not responding to its demand within the set deadline, the JAC formed in protest against the killing of W Shyamjai of Moirang Ngangkhalawai after being arrested from his house by personnel of J & K Light Infantry has announced its decision of intensifying the stir against the Government.

Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, JAC president Khwairakpam Tembi said that with rampant killing of innocent youth by the security personnel on suspicion without any proper trial, it is fear that the Manipuri society would be wiped out completely.

So the people should not remain quiet and as mere spectators.

As the Government has not given any positive response to the demands laid, the JAC has decided not to take back the body of Shyamjai along with stepping up agitation against the Govt. The manner in which the Chief Minister has turned down the demand of the JAC to provide guns to the people to protect themselves from the atrocities of the security forces, has shown that the Chief Minister is not fit to remain in his post as the guardian of the people, Tembi said.

The president of Bishnupur Apunba Nupi Lup Lourembam Nganbi, who was also present during the press conference observed that the attitude of the Govt which seems to encourage the security personnel in carrying on with their atrocities on the people under the guise of imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act is rather unfortunate.

So the women body would be extending every possible support and assistance to JAC in launching agitation against the Govt in this regard, she declared.

Meanwhile, the State Govt has announced that the body of Shyamjai would be disposed off as unidentified unclaimed body if none of his family members come to claim the same within May 16 .

It may be noted here the road block along the Tiddim line imposed by the JAC in protest against the killing is still in force.
