Imphal, January 12: The out-lawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) justifying the slaying of three Anti-Narcotic & Drug Organisation (ANDO) activists on May 31, 2007 at Wangoi has appealed to the masses to be wary of individuals masquerading as national worker but indulging in anti-people activities taking advantage of the fluid situation.

Detailing events regarding killing of the trio and subsequent reactions from civil society organisations, the armed outfit in a statement issued by its information and publicity secretary H Poirei maintained that the punishment was meted out not for their activities concerning ANDO agenda but for maligning image of the KCP.

Elaborating on the charges, Poirei recounted that ANDO secretary Naorem Deven (27) of Sekmaijin Awang Leikai, finance secretary Thourangbam Abung (27) and its member Likmabam Surjit (22) of Keibi Mayai Leikai were slain on May 31, 2007 in connection with extorting from the ZEO office, Wangoi.

Noting that apart from ANDO, civil society organisations like IPSA, FRENS, Kangleichal, Chituwa, Kanglamei, CLK, LFWP, KSU etc had strongly condemned the killings, demanded explanation and even imposed a general strike, Poirei highlighted that in response to the bodies' desire KCP had owned the elimination for their active indulgence in undermining the revolutionary movement and ethos, besides their reactionary intention and conduct.

To substantiate its charge against Deven, Abung and Surjit, the KCP referred to ANDO retracting from its earlier assertion of the trio being its functionaries/members to subsequently disowning them.

Moreover, a specific congress of the KCP convened on June 12, 2007 culminated with the KYKL, PREPAK and UNLF granting recognition to Central Committee of the KCP, Poirei reminded of the said congress deciding to firmly deal with any other breakaway group.

Moreover, the fact that on January 14 this year City Meitei offering revolutionary salute to Deven, Abung and Surjit as martyred cadres of KCP (MTF) and then on January 10 owning the killing of ZEO, Wangoi Wangkheimayum Sanatomba of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai as revenge for the demises of Deven, Surjit and Abung only strengthens KCP's justification for slaying the trio, said Poirei.

Highlighting existence of the KCP as one of the oldest revolutionary groups operating in Manipur, Poirei cautioned the general public against falling prey to designs of reactionary forces.

KCP also conceded that divergent approach by different revolutionary outfits to the same goal of Manipur's emancipation is the main cause impeding march towards freedom.
