Imphal, October 28 2009: Two suspected UG cadres have been slain in a reported encounter with troops of 57 Mountain Division at Shonglun village in the intervening night of October 27 and 28, said a PIB (D/W) release.

Based on a specific intelligence input, the troops laid multiple ambushes in Shonglun village area.

On seeing some suspicious movement past midnight, the army personnel challenged them to identify themselves using search lights.

But the unidentified persons opened fire towards the troops and tried to run away.

The troops retaliated resulting in a shoot-out.

Later, on searching the area after the firing ceased, two suspected UG cadres were found slain.

One 7.62 mm pistol, 30 rounds of AK ammunition and six live rounds of pistol ammunition were also recovered the spot.

The corpses as well as the recovered items have been handed over to Lamsang police station.
