Surenderee shot, bombs found, bodies identified

Imphal, September 27: A surrenderee of the armed outfit PULF (MI faction) was shot by some unidentified persons near his home yesterday morning.

Md Amu alias Tyeb Ali (33) s/o late Zaheruddin was shot by the unidentified persons at about 9 am.

Md Amu alias Tyeb Ali is currently undergoing treatment in ICU of Shija Hospitals.

While a bullet which him in the left side of back exited through the stomach, another bullet hit Amu on the right shoulder.

Amu was staying at the rehabilitation centre located at Lamphelpat, Imphal.

On the other hand, a Chinese hand grenade found inside the ladies' hostel complex of Kangleipak Paramedical and Nursing Institute, Khurai Sajor Leikai was retrieved and set off safely by explosive experts of Manipur police in the yesterday.

The grenade discovered at about 6.30 am was set off at Khurai Chairenthong at about 7.15 am.

Earlier on September 19, unidentified persons attacked the hostel by lobbing a bomb inside its complex.

Another bomb was also found at the Tera Sapam Leirak residence of MLA Sapam Kunjakishore this afternoon.

The bomb was safely retrieved by police.

In connection with placing of the bomb, a press release issued by the Kangleipak Medical Paramedical and Nursing Institute informed that all classes have been suspended since yesterday following the second incident of placing a hand grenade in the institute.

Disclosing that KCP's fund raiser in-charge Wanglen Khuman demanded Rs 10 lakhs from the institute within three days, it clarified that the institute cannot afford such huge amount.

While seeking cooperation of all student bodies and health related bodies towards removing the threat hanging over the institute, the institute's managing committee, staff and students appealed to Wanglen Khuman to withdraw the monetary demand.

Deceased identified, bodies claimed: Identities of the three UG suspects shot dead by a combined force of Imphal East commandos and troops of 32 AR at Phunal Maring Lamboi Khul under Irilbung police station on the night of September 26 have been established.

They were Md Wahajuddin alias Bui (25) s/o late Safiulla of Kyamgei Muslim Mayai Leikai, Sapam Boycha alias Kyamba (24) s/o late Ibocha of Bashikhong Bazar and Ningombam Heman (34) s/o late Naba of Bashikhong Kongba Irong.

According to family members, all three of them were picked up by armed men clad in civilian clothes along with two other persons from Urup Litan Makhong at about 11 am of September 26 .

With the completion of post mortem examination at RIMS mortuary, the corpses have been claimed by the respective families.

The individual shot dead by Imphal West commandos at Awang Leikinthabi under Sekmai police station, also on the night of September 26, has been identified as Heikrujam Donjaoba (18) s/o late Manihar of Phumlou Mamang Leikai.

Along with his elder sister, Donjaoba went to his maternal grandmother's place at Khonghampat in the morning of September 26.While his sister went back home, Donjaoba stayed back.

His corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem yesterday.

Further, the identity of the third man who remained unidentified after the two others have been identified has also been established.

He was one Thokchom Thomas (24) s/o Umakanta of Chingamathak Thokchom Leikai but staying at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi.

The three of them were shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 16 AR at Thangjing Chiru located under Patsoi police station in the night of September 24 .

The corpse of Thomas and that of newspaper hawker Maibam Homendro killed in the same incident have also been claimed by their respective families after post mortem at RIMS yesterday.
