Imphal, Jul 25: Taking grim note of the prevailing situation arising out of the text book issue, MPP accused the State Govt of inefficiency in handling the issue.

Interacting with mediapersons at the party office today, MPP president L Borajao contended that the SPF Govt will have to bear responsibility of all consequences and prevail upon Central authorities for thorough explanation on the matter.

reacting to contention of the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh that union Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh did not make the assurance to the Naga Students' Federation delegation as reported in some newspapers, the MPP chief demanded that transparency be ensured by insisting on a written commitment from the Union Minister rather than attempt to divert the sensitive issue with make-belief remarks.

Opining that taking into confidence all the political organisations to discuss the matter would be in the right perspective in the present context, Borajao also cautioned the State Government that the text book issue possess potential to embroil into a major controversy in case timely action is not initiated.

under no circumstances would the State Government measures claimed to have been chalked out to neutralise designs of some hill based student organisations to introduce Nagaland board prescribed text books in the hill districts qualify as concrete steps capable of addressing the situation, he charged.

Joining the press briefing, MPP spokesperson AK Sanaton suggested that there should be constant interaction between the State and Central Government to deal with the situation.

Terming State Government's proclamation to accommodate students of hill institutions in valley area schools as short-sighted policy, Sanaton also doubted practicality of the endeavour saying accommodation and distant travel on a daily basis would be a major impediment for these section of the student community.

He also reiterated that central committee of MPP had endorsed to urge the SPF Government to convene an all-political party meet to discuss the situation at the earliest.

On the other hand, while terming as unfortunate the report of the union HRD Minister Arjun singh assuring a delegation of the Naga Students' federation (NSF) on the text book issue, Rashtriya Janata Dal Youth Front (Manipur) also observed the HRD Minister's comment as reflection of the State Govt's policy based on short-sightedness and insensitivity to prevailing situation.

In a release, the political organisation also blamed the development to inefficiency and lackadaisical attitude of the O Ibobi Singh-led Govt in dealing with any situation in the appropriate manner and time.

To name a few of the SPF Govt's follies the tumultuous Meitei Mayek agitation, prolonged imposition of economic blockades along the highways, Th Manorama Devi issue, the ongoing crisis in educational institutions due to strike by the aided college teachers etc that should have been addressed in the initial stage, listed the RJD youth wind.

The concept of the SPF Govt impact of such agitations would cease with the passage of time is most unacceptable to the masses who are made to endure severe inconveniences due to rampant disturbances and social chaos, it maintained.

The body also suggested that before any issue blows out of proportion the State authorities need to consult political parties, public leaders and organisations concerned to find an amicable solution for which the RJD and its frontal units are more than willing to share the responsibility.
