JAC constituted on killing at Konthoujam

Imphal, May 18: The identity of the person slain yesterday afternoon in an encounter with Imphal West Commandos at Konthoujam has been established as Heisnam Biren (41) of Thanga Heisnam Leikai.

He was staying on rent in a room at Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.

Decrying the killing a JAC has been in connection with the killing during a meeting at Keishampat today.

The JAC expressed suspicion of the involvement of a surrenderee who is with Imphal West Police Commando.

According to Biren's second wife Chitra Devi, her husband, who is a surrenderee, borrowed Rs 50,000 from one Memthoi of Thanga Keibul Mayai Leikai, now staying on rent at Wahengbam Leikai.

Memthoi's husband named as Jadumani joined Imphal West Commando after he surendered from UNLF, she added.

Chitra said that Biren gave a Honda Activa to Memthoi as he could not pay back the money on the promised date of April 30 .

Biren and Chitra went on a scooter to Memthoi's house to pay the remaining amount on May 16 at about 10 am, Chitra added.

She further said, they however, parted ways at Nityainanda Mandir on RIMS road as Biren received a call on his mobile phone.

When Chitra enquired about his whereabouts at about 11 am, Biren informed that he was at his friend's place for a feast, Chitra narrated and added that she however found her husband's dead body at RIMS morgue in the morning of April 18 .

JAC convenor Heisnam Dinachandra demanded the Government to punish the Police Commandos involved in the killing by terminating them from their service.

JAC also asserted that they would not take the dead body until their demands for an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and arms for self defence are not met.
