Naobi : Many rally around rights

Imphal, March 12: Continuing the protest against the molestation of M Naobi Chanu by police commandos, AYUCO and All Yairipok Meira Pabi Lup today held a public meeting and a sit-in-protest at Yairipok Keithel with Joint Director of the Veterinary Department Dr M Rajendra as the president.

Representatives of clubs, social organisations, meira paibis and students attended the meeting and dharna.

In a statement, the president of today's function said that after minutely discussing the issue, the meeting adopted a number of resolutions.

The resolutions included the dismissal and punishment of the guilty police commandos and the CJM of Thoubal, Kim Ningliangsang, to expel the guilty police commandos from their localities and not to give shelter to anyone of them, to demand the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi and his Council of Ministers, to extend all support to the course of action taken up by the Apunba Lup in connection with the case, to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and to appeal to all to suspend all entertainment programmes till the case is taken to its logical conclusion.

The meeting also resolved to extend cooperation to the students of Public School, Changamdabi who have been boycotting their classes.

Naobi worked as a teacher at this school.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the school in a statement said that the inhuman treatment meted out to Naobi is akin to trampling upon the rights of the teachers.

The Principal questioned under what law Naobi was picked up and tortured and reminded all that she was found innocent by the Court and released accordingly.
