Imphal, June 10: Several women organisations have held 24 Assam Rifles posted at Moreh responsible for the spate of violence that broke out at Moreh yesterday resulting in loss of 11 precious lives.

They further maintained that AR authorities should arrange for peaceful settlement of the crisis immediately.

Briefing media persons at Manipur Press Club today afternoon, functionaries of the AMKIL, Imphal West Women Development Organisation, Khwairamband Keithel Shemgat-Shagatpa Lup, Macha Leima, Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation and Nongpok Leingak Nupi Lup decried the alleged act of AR siding with an armed group instead of maintaining law and order.

They also cast aspersion of the possible presence of the Union Government's hand in the alleged attempt of security forces to create a rift among the indigenous peoples of the State.

As such the Assam Rifles should bring a solution to the crisis failing which the mothers of the State will be compelled to take their own course of action in order to save the society, they said.

On the other hand, asserting that the UMO has already cautioned the State Government against the alleged ploy of the Union Government aimed at creating animosity among the people of the State, its president Sorojini maintained that the State Government should own responsibility of the killings in Moreh for its failure to heed the prior caution.

Urging upon the State Government to bring an amicable solution to the crisis, she informed that memoranda will be submitted to the State Government as well as the Union Government to this effect.
