Imphal, January 06: PB Acharya, National General Secretary BJP in-charge of the north east, who arrived in Imphal today, has predicted that the next government will be a coalition one.

PB Acharya, addressing mediapersons, also maintained that no government can be formed in the state without the BJP playing a role.

He maintained that no political party in the state, not even the Congress, would be able to get absolute majority after this election and in view of this there will be a need for a coalition government.

He said the BJP's doors were still open for alliances before and after the election, except with the Congress and Left Front parties.

He said BJP central election committee meeting will meet probably by January 12 to consider the lists of proposed candidates of the elections in various states.

He expressed confidence that the list of candidates of the party will be announced after this meeting.

He said, in context of Manipur the BJP's main planks for this ensuing election were development, and the protection of the state's territorial integrity, and said emphasis would be paid to solving of the problems of unemployment.

He declared that the party will fight against corruption which he said had led to the state facing major financial problems at present.

Charging the Congress-I with conspiring to bring PR rule in the state and playing divide and rule politics, he said, dissolution of the state Assembly was not necessary, but due to ambitions for power and high pressure from state Congress-I it occurred, and the people of state must be made aware of all such things.

In the meantime, all together 88 applicants have applied for the candidates from 49 constituencies, and from among these the state election committee meeting tonight will draw up a list of prospective candidates and submit the same to the central election committee of BJP for the recommendation by tomorrow.

He disclosed that about eight heavy weight candidates are in the BJP shortlist.
