Imphal, November 05 2008: As agreed during the joint meeting of the representatives of the All Manipur Inter Bus Association with the Chief Minister yesterday, the State Government has reportedly handed over a written assurance to the Association today evening.

But it did not mentioned anything about the highway protection.

In protest against the incident of pouring petrol and burning down a passenger bus by armed cadres of KLO/KLA at Lahorijan in Assam on the night of October 23 in which two passengers were charred to death while several other escaped with burnt injuries, the Association has stopped all inter-bus services indefinitely.

To resolve the matter, representatives of the bus association met the Chief Minister yesterday and submitted a memorandum detailing their demands.

The demands include institution of a judicial inquiry into the incident, payment of ex-gratia and compensation to the victims and protection of the National Highway.

However, the written assurance signed by Transport Director and handed over to the Association did not mentioned anything about the Highway protection though other points like payment ex-gratia/compensation an institution of judicial inquiry had been highlighted, according to Association president Athokpam Budha Luwang.

As the written assurance had been delivered very late in the evening, there is no time for discussion of the matter.

So a meeting has been convened tomorrow morning to discuss the issue, he informed.
