Imphal, February 04: With the proposed meeting with the Chief Minister failing to materialise today, the body of Nongmeikapam Shyam who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen is still lying in the mortuary of RIMS as the JAC formed in connection with the incident has refused to take back the body.

A joint meeting with the Chief Minister is likely to be convened at 1 pm tomorrow to resolve the matter.

The JAC has been demanding the Government to pay ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to the bereaved family, providing a suitable job to the eldest son of the deceased and the benefit of salary allowances and pension to the mother of the deceased.

Meanwhile, in protest against the killing, around 200 Meira Paibis staged a dharna at Oinam Lamkhai today.

In case of failure to arrive at any amicable solution during the talks with the Chief Minister tomorrow, the JAC has decided to take recourse to other intense form of agitation in this regard.
