Imphal, December 03: Imphal West Police Commandos shot dead a suspected militant along Dingku Road near Khuman Lampak Stadium at around 11 pm yesterday.

The slain activist has been identified as Thoudam Momo alias Romen (24) s/o Th Rashi of Khongnang Pheidekpi but staying at Kakwa Selungba Leikai.

According to family members, Momo left home three years ago.

In a statement, SP of Imphal West Clay Khongsai that acting on credible information a team of police commandos was pressed into service along Dingku road.

At about 1050 pm, two unidentified persons came from the direction of Stadium View hotel, said the SP and added that though they were warned to stop, one of them whipped out a hand grenade and lobbed it towards the cops.

In retaliatory firing one of them was killed while the other escaped.

One hand grenade was recovered from the slain militant.

The corpse of Momo was handed over to his family members after post-mortem examination at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital today.

Meanwhile, as the identity of the suspected underground activist shot dead by Imphal East Police Commandos at Heingang Awang Leikai on December 1 is yet to be established, the corpse is still lying in the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
