Imphal, March 30: With the identity of the man shot dead by police commandos in an alley beside White Palace hotel, Thangal Bazar at about 1.15 pm yesterday being confirmed, the family members alleged he was pulled up by the commandos from Sangaiprou along with a big amount of money.

The body of the deceased identified as Irom Saratchandra of Nambol Khabi Awang Leikai has been handed over to family members.

According to family members, Saratchandra was never a full fledged activist of the KCP (MC).

Nevertheless, he was acquainted with some activists of the outfit as well as with some commando personnel, they disclosed.

He used to have meals and drinks with commandos at his home.

He did small contract works and was a married man having a daughter.

On the request of a friend of Saratchandra to lend him some money to invest in his rice trade, he went to Sangaiprou to take money from some one at about 12 noon yesterday.

He also arranged for a feast at the home of his friend, the family members informed.

At Sangaiprou, Saratchandra was given about Rs 3 lakhs wrapped in newspapers by the individual for whom he was waiting there.

As soon as the individual left the place, a car (Indica) pulled up.

There were four persons in civvies in the car.

They forced Saratchandra into the car and drove away.

Saratchandra's NV scooter was driven by one of the four persons who came in the car.

About a month back, he was arrested.

Since then he had been attending the police station every week, they conveyed.
