Sidhu speaks out against blockade and bandh culture

Imphal, July 29: Observing that Manipur is currently passing through a difficult period, Governor Dr SS Sidhu referring to the over one month long economic blockade stated such a situation is not seen or heard of anywhere in the world.

However exuding confidence that the determination of the general public will overcome the stressful condition he remarked, �a light is seen at the end of the tunnel.

With the development of transport and communication, the era of almost all problems of the state will be over�.

He cited programmes to develop and improve national highways linking Manipur to the outside world including NH-150 as important factors to tide over any problem and added that funds will not be a problem for all these works.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion of launching the Manipur Public Service Commission�s website today, Dr Sidhu expressed strong resentment over the manner in whiuch Manipur is being besieged with not only the ongoing economic blockade but by the alarming culture of bandhs and strikes.

Acknowledging these events as expression of democratic aspirations of the people, he nevertheless contended that there should be a limit to it.

�Enough is enough�, said a visibly peeved governor while adding that public agitation should not exceed the limit of symbolic expression.

The miseries of the common men have increased manifold due to the ceaseless economic blockade being enforced by ANSAM.

Seeing the situation, all out efforts have to be made so that people do not suffer due to the economic blockade, the governor further stated.

Earlier elaborating on the launch of the website Dr Sidhu said in view of rapid advancement in science and technology throughout the world, MPSC having its own information source will enable the citizens to scour for job data and other necessity.

This will help the Commission to maintain transparency.

Highlighting the service rendered by MPSC since its inception in 1972 regarding routine promotion, recruitment, matters concerning departmental promotion as well as smooth execution of UPSC programmes, the Governor said that the MPSC is now entrusted with the additional responsibility of conducting Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination and Combined medical Examination from the current year.

Now with the website previous complications on dissemination of information pertaining to various examinations via the media could be curtailed as every minute details on examination dates, syllabi of optional subjects etc could be easily accessed from the website, Dr Sidhu said.

The Governor also desired that MPSC make optimum effort to computerize its examination systems as it could help improve quality of works with accuracy and transparency.

The website www.mpscmanipur.gov.in is a joint venture of MPSC and State unit of NIC with the former�s concern covering exam materials, results data etc while the NIC designed and developed the website.
