Mayai Lambi blockade continues

Imphal, December 28 2008: Mayai Lambi blockade imposed by the local people of Hiyanglam in protest against the killing of Maibam Ratan of Hiyanglam by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 21 AR in the intervening night of December 26 and December 27 at Tezpur Angangching under Kakching police station continued today too.

The Mayai Lambi blockade imposed under the aegis of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Maibam Ratan from Sekmaijin bridge to Wabagai demanding fitting punishment to the culprits is slated to continue further.

Consequent upon the road blockade along the road stretch, there was no movement of vehicles including passenger vehicles along the stretch.

However, the JAC exempted movement of vehicles for religious purposes and medical reasons.

Besides the road blockade, a large number of women clad in all whites staged protest demonstrations against the killing of Ratan.

They used placards which read as "What is the fault of Ratan", "We condemn the killing of Ratan", "Punish security personnel involved in the killing of innocent people", "Ratan was innocent" etc.

Later a public meeting was held at Hiyanglam Awang Leikai under the aegis of the JAC.

In addition to continuing with the road blockade, the meeting resolved not to claim the corpse of Ratan until the JAC's demands are fulfilled.

It also decided to take out a protest rally till Kakching police station tomorrow.

Police have claimed that one Chinese made hand grenade and one .36 high explosive hand grenade were recovered from Ratan.
