JACs formed on killing at Wangjing

Imphal, August 27: Alleging that the person killed by a team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 Assam Rifles near YK College Wangjing Lamjing was not a PULF cadre as alleged by the SF but an innocent civilian, the people of Sangaiyumpham today staged a meeting and formed a JAC to press for a number of demands.

The deceased has been identified as Md Aga (31) of Sangaiyumpham Part I Puleipokpi Salam Macha.

Apart from forming the JAC, the meeting decided to embark upon a series of agitations if their demands are not met.

In petitions submitted to the Chief Minister in charge Th Debendra and the DC of Thoubal district, the JAC said that Aga was called out from his home by one Tarao Singh and RK on August 25 at about 8 pm.

The demands of the JAC include fitting punishment for the personnel involved in the killing of Aga, a judicial inquiry be instituted to probe the matter, provide Government employment to a family member of the deceased and an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs.

Until the demands are met the body of Aga would not be taken back and the JAC would launch a series of agitation, it warned.

On the other hand, the two alleged PULF activists who were killed in a reported shoot out with a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles on August 25 at about 9.49 pm at Chajing Meitei have been identified.

The two are identified as Md Amir Khan (14) of Sora Awang Leikai and Md Sirajur Rehman (16) of the same locality.

Alleging that the two were innocent students, a public meeting was convened at Sora bazar and a JAC was formed.

During the meeting it was decided to impose an indefinite bandh along Indo-Burma road from midnight tonight.

The two were allegedly taken away by one MD Samir Khan of Lilong Haoreibi and Md Nanao of Lilong Mairenkhul in a red coloured car to guide them on August 25 at about 4.30 pm.

The JAC has demanded fitting punishment of the two named persons as well as the commandos involved in the killing of the two youths.

The other demands include providing Government employment to kins of the two deceased, ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each.

Further it was also decided to bar the entry of outsiders inside Sora after 6.30 pm.
