Imphal, February 25: The two newly elected MLAs of the DPP, N Biren and Dr Th Meinya today pledged that they would abide by the principles of the party and work towards ushering in a new Manipur.

Dr Th Meinya who was elected from Konthoujam AC told The Sangai Express that many former MLAs have been shown the door by the electorates for their misdeeds and misdoings.

Dr Meinya said the DPP will go along with other like minded political parties in its efforts to bring in a new change.

However the DPP is also ready to play the role of a constructive Opposition, he added.

Whatever the case DPP will strive to fulfill the promises made to the people, said Meinya.

Former editor of Naharolgi Thoudang, N Biren who won from Heingang AC said that his win should be construed as a victory over money and muscle power.

Biren said the top priority of the DPP is to ensure stability and transparency in Government.

Though the DPP is ready to go along with like minded political parties in Government formation, it will not hesitate to sit in the Opposition if the need arises, he stressed.

The two newly elected DPP MLAs were accorded a warm reception at the party's office at Paona bazar this evening.

Making a strong comeback to centre stage politics following his win from Lamlai AC veteran CPI leader Ph Parijat today said the June 18 had tremendous impact on the minds of the people particularly the rural folk and added that is the reason why the CPI has managed to bag five seats this time round.

Five CPI candidates who emerged victorious, Parijat, N Mangi, Dr M Nara, Tomba and M Nabadwip, gathered at Irabot Bhawan this evening to pay floral tributes to the bust of Jana Neta Irabot.

A number of party workers were also present.

Parijat said the people have reposed faith in the CPI as none of its elected members, except for a few stray cases, have ever gone against the principles of the party.

Moreover no CPI men have ever hankered after plum portfolios are taken part in power politics, said Parijat.

Answering to queries, Parijat said a coalition Government will come into being after the election and added that the CPI will go along with like minded political parties.
