RPF eliminates deserter

Imphal, May 23: The proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has awarded capital punishment to one of its deserter today.

In a statement, assistant secretary of communication & publicity (RPF) Lily Leima identified the deserter as Pte Ratan alias Thangjam Gypsan of Yairipok Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai.

Lily Leima said that at the time of deserting the post of the outfit at around 12.20 pm of December 2, 2007, Pte Ratan had taken along with him one AK-56 Rifle and one hand grenade issued to him.

Ratan joined PLA in March 2007 and after completing the basic military training in June, he was posted at 253 R Bn A-coy.

However, he fled while going on an operation mission.

Consequently, GHQ (CAO) issued Information No.A6-2/08/2007 dated 16-12-2007 declaring Ratan as a deserter.

Accordingly, he was picked up and awarded capital punishment at a spot in between Changamdabi and Tarongthel at around 10.30 am today.

The outfit also cautioned parents of the 'revolutionary soldiers' not to encourage their wayward children.
