Imphal, November 18: A suspected UG cadre was shot dead by Imphal West commandos in an encounter that reportedly took place at Khoyathong (near Pukhri Achouba) at about 8 tonight.

According to information received from police, the man was killed in retaliatory fire as the individual and two other companions opened fire and tried to run away instead of stopping as told by the commandos who were then frisking commuters.

The three persons coming from Nagamapal side were all wrapped in woollen shawls.

While one was killed in the retaliatory fire, the other two managed to escape.

Besides one .38 pistol and three live rounds recovered from the slain individual, four spent bullets of AK rifle were also recovered from the spot, informed police sources.

The corpse of the slain individual who appeared to be about 30 years of age has been deposited at RIMS mortuary.

He was found wrapped in a woollen shawl and wearing blue jeans.

On the other hand, it is reported that several rounds of fire were exchanged between security personnel and suspected UG cadres at a place in between Yumnam Patlou and Ishikha at about 3 pm today.
