Imphal, March 16: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) would not be supporting former MP Holkhomang Haokip who is set to contest from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat on an NCP ticket thereby ruling out any alliance between the Congress party and NCP in the State, an important leader of the MPCC categorically said today.

The MPCC leader said that even if there is an alliance between the NCP and Congress at the Centre, it would not be applicable in Manipur.

MPCC has already taken the decision to field its own candidates in both the Outer and Inner seats and the matter has been communicated to the high command of the AICC, he added.

If AICC gives instruction to support the NCP candidate, there would be only chaos within the party, and all the Congress workers might stop their election campaign in the Outer seat, the MPCC leader said.

Expressing happiness over the granting of ticket for the Inner seat to Higher Education Minister Dr T Meinya, the MPCC leader said that party candidate for the Outer seat could not be finalized as the contentious issue of political alliance at the Outer Parliamentary Constituency has cropped up.

Who would be contesting the election from the Outer is likely to be known by March 20, he added.

Meanwhile, MPCC president and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who had gone to Delhi to discuss matters pertaining to ticket allotment, arrived here at Imphal today.

However, Power Minister Phunzathang and Works Minister Gaikhangam, who had accompanied Ibobi are still at Delhi to pressurize AICC high command not to entertain any alliance approach with the NCP in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
