Polls will be smooth says BSF DIG

Imphal, February 13: The DIG BSF, PK Mishra said the BSF is confident the elections to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly will be smooth and violence free.

For its smooth conduct, the BSF will be making available the service of 40 of its 46 companies available at hand at the moment, he said.

The DIG said while 36 of these companies were already stationed in Manipur, 10 had been brought in from elsewhere in the country on account of the elections.

Briefing newsmen at the BSF headquarters at Koirengei today, he also said the BSF's performance in the current year has been encouraging.

In all, the force killed 13 militants, arrested 66 more and effected the surrender of six.

Mishra said the BSF also captured 46 arms of different make, 1656 rounds of assorted ammunition.

57 magazines, 11 wireless sets, five IEDs, four grenades and 100 gms of explosives.

He said the BSF jawans have already fanned out to the different sensitive zones for the purpose of area domination before the ensuing polls on February 14 and 21.
